Volunteer of the Month - Jack

Congratulations to Jack for being selected as our Volunteer of the Month! Jack has been an inspiring and supportive neighbour and volunteer who has volunteered consistently at the NeighbourLink Food Hub serving our local families in need for over 3 years!

Jack reflected on his experience and said, "I love volunteering because it’s a chance to give back, help others, and be part of something bigger than myself. I first started volunteering with NeighbourLink during COVID, looking for a better way to spend my time instead of just being stuck at home, and what better way than giving back? It quickly became one of my favorite monthly activities, delivering food and supporting my community.

I’ll continue volunteering with Neighbourlink because it’s a rewarding way to give back and see firsthand the impact a helping hand can make. The relationships I’ve built, whether with fellow volunteers or the families we support - have made this experience truly special."

At our food hub at 415 Willowdale Ave, Jack has been an essential part of our Food Delivery Team. As some neighbours know, there are over a dozen buildings all situated around each other at this location. It can be a short but strenuous walk for our neighbours served at the food hub who have various chronic health ailments. Jack has been a friendly and much needed presence for these neighbours who benefit from having someone escort them home with their heavy grocery bags, as well as dropping off groceries directly to homes (e.g. folks with physical disabilities, severe chronic illnesses, single parents working in shift work, etc). This support has allowed our neighbours in need of food support but are not able to physically attend traditional food banks to also be able to access food.
