The 2nd Taste of North York Sept 6-8

Updated: Aug 5

We are thrilled to announce the return of Taste of North York- a Community and Food Festival where people from across the GTA can experience everything North York has to offer!

The festival is a vibrant celebration of the neighbourhood’s rich culture, diverse cuisine, and community connections. Following a successful inaugural event that attracted 40,000 attendees, this year’s Taste of North York will take place from September 6-8 at Mel Lastman Square. It will feature a curated selection of food vendors, artisans, live performances, dance workshops, local organizations, family-friendly activities, and more!

Meet & Eat: Connecting the Community

On Saturday, September 7th, and Sunday, September 8th, NeighbourLink is hosting the Meet & Eat, where participants can engage with over 25 local charities, non-profits, cultural organizations, and clubs, including the North York Senior Centre, The Neighbourhood Group, and more. They will also be able to meet local politicians from the local and federal governments.

NeighbourLink’s philosophy is that life is better when you know your neighbours, and there will be several opportunities to get to know local residents! A community meal to kick off the festival will be held on Friday, September 6, at 7 PM, on a patio where attendees can meet and break bread together.

Culinary Delights

When it comes to food, the festival will showcase over 30 diverse vendors, highlighting the area's cultural groups, including the Chinese, Korean, Indian, Iranian, Latin, and Filipino communities. This is a fantastic opportunity to sample delicious dishes from various cultures, all in one place!

Live Performances and Activities

NeighbourLink is collaborating with local arts and cultural organizations to bring 22 hours of performances to the square’s main stage. Immerse yourself in local cultures with interactive Bollywood, Latin, Persian, and Ukrainian dance. There will be live art, caricature artists, robotic demonstrations, an aerial hammock, North York trivia, and plenty of other family-friendly activities to enjoy over the course of the three-day festival.

Festival Objectives and Impact

Not only does the festival extend the summer by one more weekend, but it also celebrating North York pride- welcoming residents from across the GTA to explore this area! Tate of North York also plays a crucial role in raising awareness about the work NeighbourLink and other charities do in the community.

Net profits from the event will go towards NeighbourLink’s food bank and community care programs that support local children, families, and seniors experiencing poverty and social isolation.

How you can help!

Attendees are invited to bring a non-perishable food item to fill a 32 Division police cruiser. Food collected will support NeighbourLink’s food bank, which supports over 150 North York families each month.

Join us for a weekend of fun, food, and festivities as we celebrate the spirit of North York and build stronger community connections. We look forward to seeing you there!
